1950s High School Fashion: Tips For Dressing In Vintage Fashion For Teens And Young Adults

Dressing in vintage fashion doesn’t mean you have to look older than what you are!

In the 1950s, off-shoulder tops were very popular. And were often worn by the “bad girls” in high school; as seen in the hit movie Greece. When Sandra Dee sported her infamous all black look. Pair them with an a-line skirt or capris, and you’re good to go!

Invest in off-shoulder tops.

In the 1950s, off-shoulder tops were very popular. And were often worn by the “bad girls” in high school; as seen in the hit movie Greece. When Sandra Dee sported her infamous all black look. Pair them with an a-line skirt or capris, and you’re good to go!

Two piece skirt or short sets.

Two piece short and skirt sets became popular in the 1940s. They were commonly worn in the summer by teens and young adults. Pair them with some comfy flats and some hair flowers to add a little extra vintage flare to your look.

Wear Rockabilly or ‘50s style jeans.

Jeans first became popular in the 1950s. Teens and young adults wanted to express their new-found freedom after WW2. They were usually wide-legged and worn with oxfords or sneakers. You can find them on Amazon or other vintage reproduction sites.

A red lip and winged eyeliner can go a long way.

These two things seem to never go out of style! In fact, they’re still in style to this day! I recommend investing in a good lasting lipstick such as Ruby Woo by mac. It’s pricey, but worth it in the long run.

Simply wear your hair in an updo.

If you’re not ready to actually wear vintage style fashion yet, you can start slow. Just wear your hair in an updo and put a rose or a hairflower of your choice in it.
