Whether you believe in resolutions or not, many people set themselves plans and goals for the year ahead. Whether that is career related or on a more personal level. But while you can keep yourself motivated, write them down, or even talk about them with your loved ones, it's worth thinking about whether there are more practical and psychological ways in which you can improve your chances of going through with your new year plans. One of the ways you can do this is by dressing the part. A great tip for this is to take a long hard look at your wardrobe and invest in some new pieces. So why not make 2021 your most stylish year yet and smash those goals in the process? Here are some of the top tips to do it.

Declutter your wardrobe.

One of the first things you need to consider doing is clearing out your wardrobe of all the clothes you don’t wear or don’t fit, and you don’t love. It can be hard to shy away from your usual clothing choices if your mind is presented with too many options. Even if you do have no intention of wearing them. Get rid of the clutter for good and finally, see the clothes you have to work with. This will also highlight if there are any purchases you need to make.

The one thing we can all struggle with is letting go of certain clothing items. There are sentimental reasons to keep things, clothing items that you might want to wear or you think you might wear in the future. There are always going to be reasons to keep something, but in the new year you can start to be brutal with what you keep. See it as the opportunity to make some changes, and get rid of the things you no longer want, need, love or fit into. It will be worth it and will also help you to feel more clearer and fresh ready to make some other changes.

Invest in key pieces to mix and match.

It’s important that you have key pieces in your wardrobe that can be mixed and matched together. This is also known as a capsule wardrobe which can be categorized into things like work and socializing. There are many things that you might want to think about, and searching out women’s clothes can be a little daunting. So start with just smaller purchases or things that will work with the clothes that you already have. This can help you to start to understand a style that works for you or the things that can help you to feel more confident about the clothes that you are choosing to try. You don’t have to venture to the shops though as once you have highlighted what items you need you can find clothes online.

Dress your body shape.

We all have key features of our body shape so take advantage and dress them appropriately. If you have a small waist show that off or if you have amazing curves don’t be scared of them. Dressing your body shape will make your clothes look and fit better on you, which will then ultimately make you feel good. However, sometimes we can be unaware of what sort of shape we have and the best ways to help promote that in the nicest way. In this case take some time to work out your best features, or the features that you love about your body and try to find things that work for you.

Try a few items on and take a long hard look in the mirror and see how you feel wearing them, and how they fit on you. This can be a great way to help you find the clothes that you love and the items that help you to feel confident about your dress shape and the clothes that you have.

Work out what colours suit you.

Some colours suit us better than others, but actually, it’s more to do with the tone of the colours. You may suit warmer tones or cooler ones, but it’s important to try and work out which suits you best to aid you with future clothing purchases. Sometimes the best advice is purely trial and error. Try on some different colours and see how they look against your skin colour and also hair colour. You will notice that certain tones will help you to shine whereas others may drown you out a little or have you look a little lost. The more you try different things, the better you will be in when it comes to choosing options in the future.

Be a little adventurous.

Finally, why not make it the year to be a little more adventurous with your style. Try new things and step out of your comfort zone. For example, if you wear jeans everyday why not change things and wear a dress one day. You might be surprised how the change in clothing makes you feel. Often this can be the hardest thing to do. We can all be comfortable with a particular style or certain items of clothing. But stepping out of your comfort zone will help you to feel better when it comes to different clothing and ways to wear things. A confidence boost is just what is in order and dressing for the part can help you to get there.

Let’s hope this has inspired you to make this year a stylish one.
