How To Add A Little '40s Flare To Your Wardrobe This Summer With Style Camp

In the 1940s, crop tops started to become a trend. They often came down to the lower rib-cage - exposing about 2-inches of the mid-drift area. They were often worn tied up in the middle with flared out shoulders: and were usually worn with flared out skirts, shorts, or pants. Perfect for keeping you cool and stylish on those suffocatingly hot summer days.
I found a designer that has perfectly recreate this classic look, and added her own little twist to it.

Lindsey Simpson is a designer based in the United Kingdom. Who owns an online clothing store called "Style Camp," she focuses mostly on '40s style fashion which is what really attracted me to her shop. The way she effortlessly balances '40s elegance with modern-day efficiency and simplicity is just amazing to me. I spoke to her because I wanted to know why she has such a love for '40s style fashion, and how she started her online fashion empire.

A: “Stylecamp started back in 2012 when a friend and I tried to start our own fashion blog based on our thrifted and vintage finds, something we were really passionate about. I’d also studied clothes design at University and knew I wanted to have a go at making my own things. The blog never really took off unfortunately, but I continued making and found success with selling my collection online and at London’s Spitalfields Market.” Source Q: Why did you decide to design vintage style fashion? A: “Stylecamp is a combination of my love of travel, my admiration for vintage style and my practical skills in sewing and making. I truly believe in travelling in style, so it was a natural next step to design clothes I wanted to wear on holiday. I love the romance and glamour of vintage beach and Riviera style, often captured in old travel posters . The allure of the holiday resorts and feel-good summer style all goes into inspiring my simple, timeless and elegant collection. Rather than be a reproduction brand, I try to take the timeless essence of the vintage clothing whilst creating something covetable and wearable for the modern woman." Source Q: You seem to really like 1940s style fashion. How come? A: “I love anything from the 1930s to the1950s and I name a lot of pieces in my collection after the Golden Hollywood starlets who were often pictured in their beachwear for their publicity shoots at this time. I’m in awe of the vivacious Carole Lombard, I think she has to be my favourite starlet - I even have a dress design inspired by her. I have this book ‘Sunkissed - Sunwear and the Hollywood Beauty 1930-1950’ that I love leafing through, showing the era to have such iconic, feminine silhouettes that were so ahead of their time. I think this period in history represents a time of fashion freedom for women and the silhouettes are a complete celebration of the female form, something that I really want to keep alive and communicate with my designs today.” You can shop Lindsey's site here.
