This Boutique Will Make You Say Ooh la la

Trustworthy Online Antique stores are somewhat hard to find, and when you do find one they can be a little on the pricey side. So I went in search of a trustworthy antique store that had vintage items of reasonable price. And I found this Shop called LaOoh la La Boutique I decided to speak to Jessica one of the owners of La Ooh La La Boutique. To get to know more about it.

Here's how it went:

How and why did you all start LaOohLaLaBoutique?

"LaOohLaLa Boutique was born when my Aunt Mary Lynn decided to create a collection of handmade, original retro style pin-up girl pillows which are literally made by hand as each pillow incorporates hand-sewn decorative rosettes, often made of satin or cotton. The pillows feature printed images of pin-up girl illustrations from the 1940s-1960s, and at first, she gave them as gifts to friends and family and then began selling them in person in small batches. Finally, she decided to open an Etsy shop which she named "LaOohLaLa Boutique" to house her handmade creations for selling to the world!

Mary Lynn's great-nieces Jessica and Andrea, and her sister Sharee, helped her in running the Etsy shop, but eventually, Mary Lynn wasn't able to give the business the full attention that she desired, and she then passed the torch over to Jessica who was excited to revamp the shop and put focus on showcasing her Aunt Mary Lynn's handmade pin-up pillows, which remains the spotlighted product line at the top of the sections and the largest image in our Etsy shop's "Featured Listings".

Jessica and Andrea are twin sisters and they've always loved vintage fashion and modeling, and they thought that adding new product lines of vintage clothing and accessories, such as dresses, lingerie, hats, and shoes, would capture the style of the retro rockabilly pin-up girl, and thus complement the theme of the shop. Mary Lynn's sister Sharee (grandmother of Jessica and Andrea) helped contribute inventory to these new shop sections as well as vintage tea cups for our "Fancy Ladies' Tea Room" section. Jessica also loves hunting for vintage finds to offer in LaOohLaLa Boutique and she has contributed to these product lines as well, along with the lovelies in our "Boudoir & Beauty Salon" which includes vintage mod dome hair dryers!

The images of retro pin-up girls on Mary Lynn's pillows that started it all inspired an appreciation of women throughout the eras and Mary Lynn soon made handmade pillows featuring 1920s flapper girls and 1800s Victorian ladies.

This soon gave Jessica inspiration to venture into expanding each product line to reveal the beauty of women in each of these decades as well! In addition to enhancing the vintage fashion and collectibles sections to include 1920s and Victorian-era antiques, she launched what became three separate shop sections and LaOohLaLa Boutique's largest in inventory amount and sales, "Feminine Art Prints" which are vintage art prints pulled from books such as 1930s Frida Kahlo painting lithographs and 1920s Josephine Baker art, "Classic Lady Printables" downloadable digital images such as retro pin-up girl illustrations and Mucha Art Nouveau poster art, and "Women's Ads & Ephemera" vintage original prints and movie poster ads pulled from 1940s-1950s Life Magazines that truly convey the beauty, intrigue, and history of the mid-century American woman, as well as the iconic starlets of Old Hollywood's Golden Age, like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and more!"

When and did you become interested in vintage fashion and collectibles?

"Andrea and I were raised by our grandmother, Sharee of LaOohLaLa Boutique, due to our dear late mother Vicki's battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Sharee was always a fashionable lady. When Andrea and I were little girls in the late 90s, we loved exploring our "Nana" Sharee's large walk-in closet filled with vintage high fashion pieces from the 1960s to 1980s and our friends did too! She had fancy, built-in cubbies for each pair shoes and an eclectic array of vintage dresses (and yes, lingerie!), and even a separate antique armoire and cedar lined coat closet for her opera cloaks and genuine fur coats! Sharee often took her granddaughters to local estate sales, garage sales and thrift stores where they'd find all sorts of beautiful and unique vintage clothing and accessories, and from then on Jessica and Andrea were vintage fashion hunters for life!"

What's the most popular product and what item do you recommend buying the most?

"LaOohLaLa Boutique's most popular product is a vintage original 1950s Warner's Cinch Bra Bustier that is nearly identical to the one recently auctioned off that was a piece from the legendary Miss Marilyn Monroe's personal wardrobe!

And the item that I would recommend customers buy the most could also be considered our "best seller": our vintage art prints and digital printables featuring Vogue fashion cover illustrations from the 1920s - 1940s. True vintage inspired fashionistas and haute couture dressmakers appreciate these early works in fashion design, and for me, nothing expresses the history of fashion at the peak of its grandeur as the artist illustrated Vogue fashion cover artwork by legendary fashion illustrators like Georges Lepape, Carl Erickson, Helen Dryden and George Wolfe Plank.
